Annotated Websites

After looking around at other music channels i found that there are a lot of conventions that they all follow, not just as websites but as a music channel website. There are also very noticable differences between websites with different music genre's, something I need to be aware of to make sure that my music channel is  attractrive to my target audience.
Here are some annotations I made:

Both MTV and Viva are popular music channels that cater for the mainstream tastes, i.e what we hear on the radio every day. This is interpreted and represented through the codes and conventions on their webpages. For example the images include people who are sporting a very mainstream fashion, a pop culture, trendy type of fashion which people who were in to heavy metal would not feel confortable wearing. So in turn they are not attracted to this website automatically. Though someone who does like this particular type of fashion would initially be interested in the website/channel as it includes something they are interested in just by looking at theimages. Also, the colours are very bright and "happy", whereas stereotypically blackd darker colours are associated with a different type of music and bright colours are associated with pop music etc.

This is an annotated web page of NME, an indie/alternative magazine who have their own tv channel also. I already could tell the website would look a lot different to mainstream music channels.

The NME website, as i have noted in the annotations, is a lot more smarter looking than the pop music channels. The colour scheme is a lot simpler and the picture/text ratio is more text heavy than the previous channels i annotated. This indicates the target audience is different for NME than is is for MTV or Viva. It is important for me to remember this as my channel is very much different from mainstream channels.

After looking at an indie/alternative music channel i moved on to looking at "heavier" music channels, which is more like my own channel, Alt TV.
